Today is my sweet T’s fifth birthday. I’m going to make this post short and sweet because we have big plans to have a snuggle party while watching Sleeping Beauty followed by a sushi dinner. A perfectly T birthday if you ask me. All this birthday prep got me thinking about birthday cake evolution.
Parents out there… have you ever reflected on the evolution of birthday cakes (and parties, for that matter) in your household? I have to admit that our cakes have never been very fancy, but we did buy the first one for each kiddo at an actual bakery. And we considered themes and colors and what have you.
But then the kids get a little older and they have more opinions and are so imaginative and creative and want to participate in all aspects of birthday celebrations. For the last several years, we bake our cakes from a box and decorate them ourselves. There’s way too much frosting and licking of fingers and sprinkles, but they are beautiful.
Well, tonight I present to you my favorite cake effort to date. There are dinosaurs, Frozen characters, a cheetah, and dolls from our dollhouse. Not to mention heavy servings of blue sprinkles, chocolate chips, and rainbow sprinkles. Do your teeth hurt looking at it? It’s perfect, isn’t it?
