I love my little poppies to the moon and back, but I am also a huuuuuge fan of bedtime. By the end of the day, I am usually tuckered out and ready to veg on the couch with a good book…in silence. And then, in an hour or two, I head upstairs to my room for reading under the covers.

And if you have kids like mine, you need this fella right here.
While I’m fairly strict with bedtime when it comes to the closing your door and staying quiet part, I do not enforce a lights-out policy. If our kids want to read in their beds, or draw/write in a notebook, I do not mind. I’ve probably read more books in my bed than I have anywhere else, and I read pretty much everywhere.
I think reading in bed is a great habit to have.
And do you want to know the best part about this little routine of ours?? Our kids think they are pulling one over on us! We say our good-nights, turn off lights, and head downstairs only to hear footsteps a few minutes later. They sneak out of bed, flick on their lights, and return to their bed with a book. Or in some cases, a gigantic pile of books. They are sneaking in extra reading time.
WhenSchizz and I head upstairs for the night, we are met with illuminated doorways at the end of a dark hall. We open the door to find our children, sleeping soundly, with books everywhere.
