Random gift requests

I love random gift requests! Leo has been drafting his Christmas wish list and it got me thinking: what is the most out-there thing that your children have put on their wish list? What is the weirdest, most random thing that they have asked you for?

Santa will need those night-vision goggles to read this draft!

When Leo was two years old, the nurse at our pediatrician’s office asked him what Santa was going to bring him for Christmas and, without missing a beat, he replied, “A penguin in a boat.”

The penguin in a boat thing didn’t happen that year.

That was also the year that he told everyone Santa was going to fill his stocking with trucks and T’s with cupcakes.

That Easter, we explained that the Easter Bunny usually leaves candy in your basket. Leo insisted that the Easter Bunny would actually be delivering, “Goats. Two big goats.” It was so random and hilarious our family members would repeatedly ask him what the Easter Bunny was going to leave for him, to which he always responded exactly the same: “Goats. Two big goats.” My brother and sister-in-law went to great lengths to locate two big, stuffed goats to fulfill this dream. Stuffed goats were hard to find that year so he ended up with a large stuffed sheep.

Baaaaa!

When Leo was three years old, he asked Santa for Cindy Lou Who and a disco ball.

Santa did get him a disco ball ornament.

And, just last year, Leo asked for “an abandoned beehive” for Christmas.

Nope. Didn’t happen.

But perhaps my favorite wish list item of all is that of my cousin’s daughter. One Christmas Eve, when Schizz and I were either dating or engaged (read: childless), Schizz asked my cousin’s preschool-aged daughter what she wanted for Christmas. She immediately replied, “A light bulb” and everyone burst out laughing. But, my favorite part of this whole story had to do with our drive home. Schizz and I were talking about what a fun night it had been. I started laughing when we got to the light bulb part of the night and do you want to know what childless-Schizz said? He said, “That doesn’t seem like a very safe present. Would you really give that to your kid?” Silly husband! I’m laughing just thinking about it!
