I have a confession to make.

Yes, I’m an educator in a family full of book worms.
I’m also a bit of a health nut (Schizz would have me edit this for better accuracy).
Because I’m a health nut, my kids have no choice but to eat healthy.
I exercise almost every single day.
I make sure that my kiddos get plenty of exercise each day.
We get outside and enjoy nature daily, in all sorts of weather.
Until verrrrry recently, Leo was TV phobic and so my little poppies rarely watched TV/movies.
Aside from The Bravermans, I don’t have anything saved on our DVR.
I could live without TV.
We don’t eat fast food and rarely order out.
I eat all of my meals with my kids and Schizz joins us when he’s home.

Buuuut…
Schizz works long, unpredictable hours.
And I sleep like junk.
And I am with my little poppies all day long.
And Leo recently started watching some pre-approved television with adequate levels of preparation, support, and debriefing.

Sooooo….
For the past couple of months, we have started a new tradition and it’s a tradition that I never would have guessed we would ever have: TV DINNERS. Yes, this educator mom lets her kids eat in front of the TV. Once or twice a week we enjoy what we have dubbed Dinner Picnics. We carefully select a show or a movie (read: to minimize Leo-drama), spread out a blanket in front of the television, and eat dinner. This health-nut-educator-book-lovin’-tv-hatin’ mom lets her kiddos eat food in front of the television.

The Snowman: the sweetest, most benign movie ever and one of our favorites!

And, do you know what? It’s really fun! And we’re going to keep on doing it! In fact, we’re doing it right now.

I remember that winter because it had brought the heaviest snows I had ever seen. Snow had fallen steadily all night long and in the morning I woke in a room filled with light and silence, the world seemed to be held in a dream-like stillness. It was a magical day…and it was on that day that I made the snowman.

Hello again. Maybe I should just send you an email. lol I swear, I could have written a lot of your post. We have so many similarities and I love the fact that “I get” what you are saying. 🙂 While we do not do dinner picnics ( my son get some TV earlier in the day (sometimes). Anyway, we love the movie Snowman. They came out with a part two, which is cute and sad, but happy in the end. I’ll be honest, both my kids love the Snowman, but my daughter was so upset at the ending. Me, too. lol I told her to watch it again and the Snowman would come back. Sigh - he melted again. Bad mom move. So, I told her to stop the movie before the Snowman melted. That kind of worked. :/

Ha ha! Hello! This is why I love that I started this silly ol’ blog- so many kindred spirits. The Snowman is THE BEST movie. It is the most benign movie ever, perfect for the sensitive kiddo. A dear friend recommended it to me and the kids are mesmerized every time they see it. And part two? SO SAD. Totally not the same as the first. Still decent but the first is just so beautiful and special. Except the melting part. 🙂
