Welcome to the 10-Day “Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge. I am so happy you’re here! Over the next ten days, we are going to go on a read-aloud journey together. I hope you’re reading for some fun!
For the next ten days, I will guide you through how to start a daily read-aloud habit that honors your unique family.
Let’s get started, shall we?
Welcome to the 10-Day
“Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge

Reading aloud is the most important part of your homeschool day… and it also boosts connection and creates family memories!
Your daily read-aloud is the most important part of your *entire* homeschool day. Reading aloud to children and teens is hugely important for academic success, flexing of those all-important empathy muscles, and for family connection.
Your daily read-aloud routine has the power to boost connection, fuel learning, and make lifelong memories. Put simply- it can transform your homeschool routine and family life.
Yes, I call this challenge the “Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge. That’s because we’ve always referred to our daily read-aloud time as “Coffee and Books.” I promise the coffee is not required.
What’s important is that you make a commitment to read aloud to your children every single day. The time of day does not matter. I want you to create a daily read-aloud habit that honors your unique family.
Why 10 days?
This 10-Day “Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge is our new-and-improved “Coffee and Books” series. The original series was created in 2014 and it was 5-days in duration.
I decided to double it because habits take time to stick. Truth be told, habits take longer than 10 days to form, but my hope is that the next 10 days will help to get you off and running.
You can choose to participate in the challenge for 10 consecutive days or you can complete the challenge Monday through Friday for two homeschool weeks. It’s up to you and what works best for your unique family!
How to use your 10-Day “Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge tracker:
In case you missed it, you can download your challenge tracker here. Each day, I would like you to record the title of the book you read aloud on the spine of one of the tracking page books. You can simply write the title or you can get artsy and use this tracking page as a coloring sheet. You do you!
What is important is that you record your daily progress. Doing so helps to create a habit. Creating a simple, sustainable read-aloud habit that honors your unique family can be transformative for your homeschool and family life!
Next steps…
Tomorrow, we will officially kick off our 10-Day “Coffee and Books” Read-Aloud Challenge. Each day, you will receive an email from me. The email will contain a daily prompt and link to both the daily article and the 10-Day Coffee and Books Challenge page.
I know that we are all in a tricky homeschool season. Due to the pandemic, it can be challenging to access the library. Do not worry! I will be sure to share free online resources. I don’t want anything to get in the way of your daily read-aloud!
