Happy World Teacher’s Day (one day belated) to all the amazing teachers out there!
Sunday morning, I woke up to this sweet little note:

For no reason at all, there on my kitchen table was a little love note from Leo with a picture of him reading a book, a robot puppet, a bird nest, and a ruler. A random act of kindness for me. Is there anything better than Sunday morning sweetness such as this?
These gifts made me smile and also gave me one of those,“Oh my gosh!” moments. Parents out there: do you ever have a moment, perhaps as you fill out school forms or watch your child hop on the bus, when you think to yourself, “Oh my gosh! I’m a parent.” or, “Oh my gosh! I have a first grader?!” etc.? I have these every so often, even three kids and six and a half years into this parenting gig. It seems like, just yesterday, I was a twenty-something, writing papers and juggling multiple jobs to pay for my degrees, and now -suddenly- I’m in my mid-thirties with three beautiful children. That twenty-something always dreamed of this, I just don’t know how thirty-six and three kids arrived so darn quickly!
Well, this Sunday morning sweetness gave me a different type of “Oh my gosh!” moment: Oh my gosh! I am a teacher. Believe me, that twenty-something never pictured this. Wow. Teaching is a huge job of the utmost importance. Reading Leo’s words, I instantly thought of all the amazing teachers that I have been blessed to know; those who touched my life growing up, and those who I am honored to call colleagues or, luckier still, friends. You know who you are.
This mother, this teacher, wouldn’t change any of this for the world. I’m up for this unexpected challenge. Lucky for me, I know some phenomenal teachers and I’m not afraid to ask for the help I know I will need as I move forward. I know it takes a village.
