Hey, sisters! If you love rabbit holes and learning, you’re going to LOVE this episode. Please welcome Brandon Hendrickson of Science is WEIRD to The Homeschool Sisters Podcast.
Brandon Hendrickson is the founder of Science is WEIRD, but in this episode, we talk about SO much more than “just” science. From Mr. Roger’s to Taylor Swift’s hidden Easter eggs to the horrors of balloon animals, to riddle culture in medieval times, to Greek mathematics, to golf, to cartoon wars, to fossils… we even talk about tombstones!
Pour yourself a cup of your favorite warm beverage, hunker down with us for a bit, and hang on to your hats. It’s a fun ride!
Please note: Brandon was at the top of my wish list for guests when we re-started the podcast in early 2023. We recorded this episode in late spring of 2023, and it was slated to air over the summer. However, our family experienced the sudden loss of my beloved MIL, and it took a while to regain my footing in Podcast Land. I can tell you that Brandon now has 3 children and not 2.5, Science is WEIRD is coming up on its 4th birthday, the program has well over 200 lessons, and I didn’t get a puppy in the fall (although we did add my father-in-law’s 13-year-old dachshund to our fold). Despite the delay in publishing the episode, I can assure you that this conversation is gold!

Please welcome Brandon Hendrickson to The Homeschool Sisters Podcast
Brandon Hendrickson is the founder of Science is WEIRD, where he teaches online classes about the beautiful basics of all the sciences.
Brandon’s a teacher through and through. Before starting Science is WEIRD, he taught all sorts of odd things — test prep to ADHD teens, analytical reading to college students, philosophy to gifted middle schoolers… He’s helped people start schools, shaping and leading a full upper elementary curriculum for a start-up school in the Seattle area. He’s led Socratic seminars for homeschoolers on such topics as moral economics, world religions, the philosophy of happiness, and the psychology of evil.
His goal is to help families raise Renaissance people — adults who can bring together amazing insights from across the world to help mend the world.
Brandon has a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Washington, as well as bachelor’s degrees in history and religious studies. He credits his unique approach to science education to his humanities background.
He’s lived in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Washington, and now resides in beautiful Rochester, Minnesota with his wife and three kids.
He’s never happier than when he comes home from the library with a bag of shiny new books, puts on some music, and stretches out on the floor to start reading.
The Winter 2024 Season of The Homeschool Sisters Podcast is Sponsored By Night Zookeeper
Night Zookeeper is an engaging, narrative-based, gamified online creative writing program designed for kids ages 6-12+. The Night Zookeeper online platform has an engaging storyline, dynamic games, and activities.
My youngest son used (and loved) Night Zookeeper for many years. I knew it was a win for our family when he would ask me, “Mum, can I play Night Zookeeper?”
Be still, my gameschoolin’ heart!
As he played his way through the program, I saw a huge increase in his writing confidence and improvements in his spelling, punctuation, grammar, and creative writing skills.
