The Books That Fill Our Shelves
{Weekend Wrap-Up}
Welcome to The Books that Fill Our Shelves, a weekly wrap-up of all the wonderful books that my crew has been reading over here during the week. This series is inspired by you guys! I’ve had folks ask me, both Facebook and Instagram, to share what our family is reading and our favorite books!
The Books that Fill Our Shelves
Cait recently finished:
How to Change Your {Blogging} Life with Google Analytics by supermommyclub.com
I’m horrible at reading books on my Kindle, but I finally finished this one! If you have a website, and you want to understand Google Analytics, this book is for you!
Cait is currently reading:

What If? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe
This book is written by Randall Munroe of xkcd fame and it’s every bit as funny and fascinating as the site itself. Munroe provides serious, scientific answers to the craziest of reader questions. If you are unfamiliar with Munroe, he’s a scientist-comic. Yup, I’m serious. The combination is an incredibly interesting and hysterical read.
The Boy Who Played with Fusion: Extreme Science, Extreme Parenting, and How to Make a Star by Tom Clynes
Folks, I’ve only just started this book but if you are the parent of a gifted child, you need to read it. This book illustrates why we need better gifted education, and why parents of gifted children need support. This would also be a fantastic book club book!
The kids recently finished:
We recently completed our Mindful Month of Books with this great read:
The Three Questions by John J. Muth
This book is based on a story by Leo Tolstoy, complete with Muth’s gorgeous watercolor illustrations. This is a great way to start a conversation about life’s important questions with your children.
Wall by Tom Clohosy Cole
Wall is the tale of a family separated from their father when the Berlin Wall was erected between East and West Germany. Based on true stories, this story will at once break and warm your heart as the family works toward reunification. This is one of those books that helps you talk about difficult times in world history.
Leo recently finished:
Harry Potter (books 1-7) by J.K. Rowling
Obsessed. He’s reading the series for the third time since Memorial Day weekend. I can feel a post brewing on this topic!
Leo is currently reading:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
Leo has been obsessed with the Harry Potter series this summer. He read it last year for the first time, but never read beyond book four. Now, he’s read the entire series and then immediately jumped back in again. Obsessed!!
T is currently reading:
Usborne Illustrated Fairy Tales
This week, we’ve been having a complete blast with Brave Writer’s Jot it Down curriculum. All three of my children are loving the program, but T is especially enamored with a Fairy Tale project that we are working on. We are using several different books for our fairy tales but this one, by far, is her favorite.
Seuss is “reading”:
Seuss is still reading these little phonics books based on Superman. Obsessed!
Superman Classics: Superman Phonics Fun by Lucy Rosen

This weeks’ favorite audiobooks:
My little poppies love audiobooks and we’ve grown quite the collection over the years, between the ones we made ourselves and the ones we’ve ordered through Scholastic and received as gifts. Here are a couple of the audiobooks that we’ve enjoyed this week.

Poetry Speaks to Children by Elise Paschen
I cannot express how much I adore this book. I’ve posted about it before, and I’m including it in next month’s book club line-up. When I first discovered this amazing collection, I gave it as a gift to every birthday party we went to that year and I’m still getting feedback about how great the book is. It’s a treasure.
SKYBRARY by Reading Rainbow
Did you grow up with Reading Rainbow? Do you remember their amazing record-breaking Kickstarter campaign last year? Well, guess what? SKYBRARY by Reading Rainbow was just released and it’s incredible! I am giving away FIVE year-long memberships so be sure to check out my review and enter to win!
Next up:
We’re going to continue to delve into these titles, as part of our month of poetry! I invite you to join in the fun if you’re feeling a little frazzled after the school year!

July is crazy-busy for everyone and it can be challenging to read chapter books for your read aloud. Join us for poetry- you can do this!
Tell me, what are you reading?? Share here!
I’d love to add your favorites to my Goodreads list! Also, parents… have you seen my How to Start a Family Book Club post? It’s a fun way to encourage reading for the entire family!
