Let’s talk about reading aloud for a minute.
Most of us read to our children before bed, and that is a wonderful family tradition to have. It is a great way to connect with your children after a busy day, to snuggle, and to calm down before falling asleep. I still need to read to fall asleep at night!
I love to read to my children at bedtime but recently I’ve started a new tradition. It is called Coffee and Books and it is fantastic!
You see, I used to make my kids do their math first. Math is one of the BIG subjects. It’s the subject I worry most about and I love the feeling of having it off my plate.
But, sometimes, when I ask my children to do their math right after breakfast I am met with power struggles.
And that’s a terrible way to start your morning.
So this winter, somewhere in the midst of the cold and hibernation, I tried something new. Instead of tackling the thing that worries me most, I decided to start with what I never worry about: reading aloud.
And so Coffee and Books was born. Every morning, when my children descend the stairs, I am ready with coffee and a book… or a stack of books.
Coffee and Books has been a wonderful addition to our homeschool routine. First, it is enjoyable for all involved. Second, I immediately accomplish something while enjoying my children and my coffee. Third, with read alouds, I can incorporate any topic or subject matter… or just read fun books. There is so much flexibility.
Recently, we had the opportunity to enjoy Coffee and Books with a brand-new book from author Birgitta Sif, Where My Feet Go. I received this book at no cost from Penguin Random House. I was not compensated, nor was I required to write a positive review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own and I only share products that my family enjoys.
I digress…
Coffee and Books: Where My Feet Go
Where My Feet Go is an adorable story about a young panda with a gigantic imagination. Your children will delight in following the young panda through the day. As panda’s feet walk, run, swing, and splash in the most creative ways. Your children will appreciate the book’s creativity and celebration of play.
If you have a child who is always morphing into characters and going on wild imaginative adventures, your child will love this book. When young panda is off exploring, nothing is as it first appears. Your children will feel inspired as you read this darling book.

What a good idea! We recently started doing this because everyone has been taking turns being sick (we usually start with the things we are working on together, so we had to shelf that for a couple weeks). I think we’ll keep it as the routine!
Feel better!!
