I’ve had a lot of folks ask me, on both Facebook and Instagram, to share what our family is reading and our favorite books. Someone suggested a weekly series and I thought to myself, “Sign me up!” I’m not gonna lie, folks, part of me is hoping that you comment with your favorite books! Let’s all share our book love with one another and make those nightstand book piles a mile high!
The Books that Fill Our Shelves
Cait recently finished:
- Educating Your Gifted Child by Celi Trépanier
Read my review here and check out Celi’s guest post here.
- A Parent’s Guide to Raising Lifelong Learners by Colleen Kessler
I got this awesome ebook for free here.
The kids recently finished:
- The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg
The Chronicles of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg
Leo recently finished:
It’s tough to keep up with Leo’s reading because he’s always reading a dozen books at once. I’ll list a couple of them but check out his Goodreads book log to see more. I try to keep up with it but I’ve slacked a little this spring.
- Bone Crown of Horns by Jeff Smith
- Babymouse: Heartbreaker by Jennifer L. Holm & Matthew Holm

T recently finished:
- Everything and anything by Mo Willems
- Frog and Toad series by Arnold Lobel
Seuss recently “read”:
- Marvel Encyclopedia by Matt Forbeck
Cait is currently reading:
This book is fascinating and very heavy, so it’s taking me longer than normal to get through because I keep needing to pause and read something else for a bit. Does that happen to you guys?
- Quiet Kids: Help Your Introverted Child Succeed in an Extroverted World by Christine Fonseca
I don’t know about you guys, but I love love love to hear how other folks do this homeschoolin’ thing!
Loving this and savoring it, folks.
The kids are currently reading:
Our current read aloud is a treasure! It’s not anything you can find at your library or purchase through Amazon, folks. It’s our very own Grandparent Journal. Click here to read more about how the whole thing happened, and stay tuned for a guest post I’m doing over at DoingGoodTogether.org!
In preparation for our STEAM-Filled month of May at the {virtual} Family Book Club at My Little Poppies, we have also been enjoying the following books:
- The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires
Violet the Pilot by Steve Breen
Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty
Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty
Next book on Cait’s nightstand:
Up next is subject to change because I have a tendency of starting books at random but at this moment, the next book on the teetering pile on my nightstand is Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup.
Tell me, what are you reading?? Share here!
I love hearing from you and I’m not gonna lie, folks, I also want to add good books to my Goodreads account!
More Information on Our Book Club:
The {virtual} Family Book Club at My Little Poppies is an awesome group of readers. It has been wonderful to connect with folks as book-obsessed as we are over here. If you would like to join in the fun, please join the Family Book Club @ My Little Poppies Facebook group. We cover one book every week and you can participate as much as you’d like. There’s no pressure! We share crafts, lessons, and other activities related to each book and by the week’s end we have an entire Pinterest board related to the text. That way, if you miss anything or if you have a crazy week (it happens to all of us), you can go back at your leisure and explore the book on your own time.
All of the books (and more!) from the {virtual} Family Book Club at My Little Poppies can be found here:
All of the lessons, crafts, and activities based on each book can be found here, listed by title and author:

Love this list! I am always on the lookout for new books. I just finished The Secret Life of Violet Grant, by Beatriz Williams – fantastic – and am about to start The Emotional Life of Your Brain, by Richard Davidson. I may have to join you in these “what we are reading posts” B just finished the “Nathan Fludd, Beastologist” series, and C is loving the Step-into-Reading Disney books.
Oooh Nikki— we might make this thing into a link up. If so, would you want in? I know you’re a super reader, too 🙂
We are enjoying the Saxby Smart series right now. https://www.goodreads.com/series/77220-saxby-smart-private-detective
I’ll be checking this out on our next library venture. Thanks, Jean!
