Story of the World: Pyramids on the mind

This week, we spent a lot of time talking about Ancient Egypt.  We are currently reading Story of the World and listening to it on audiobook and we have a plethora of Ancient Egypt books and encyclopedias. When my little poppies were busy building this week, they were usually building pyramids, or at the very least, discussing them.

This is Leo’s favorite book at the moment.

Friday afternoon, Leo and I were in the playroom. We had just finished reading Science in Ancient Egypt and we were staring at a photograph of the pyramids of Giza, both of us lost in thought. Simultaneously, we started talking about how amazing it must be to see the pyramids in person, considering how amazing it is to simply look at them in a text.

I started to say how perhaps someday, in the future, we could visit them. I explained how Leo and his siblings would likely appreciate them more when they are a bit older and also made a passing comment about how the area has been unstable and not always super-safe to travel of late, when I was interrupted by Leo, “Yeah! I don’t want to travel there now because I would be extremely worried about the JACKALS.”
Jackals! I love him.

So, to maintain our jackal-safety, we took a virtual tour of the pyramids of Giza and he made a virtual mummy.

  • I’ve been there; they are lovely. But, you would have to pay for toilet paper at public restrooms. Many kind people welcomed me to their homes and offered me very hot tea on very hot days. And, I haven’t checked on the biology or politics for a bit, but there might be jackals.
