As a homeschool mom, I chose College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math for several reasons…
I first discovered Mr. D Math in 2018. That year, math had become a pain point in our home. My oldest and I were butting heads far too often over all things math-related and I was at my wit’s end.

College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math is a course on life skills for teens
My 7th grader asked to take ASL this year, and so I signed him up for a self-paced ASL course through Mr. D Math. But then I saw the College and Career Readiness course description, and I was SOLD. I read my son the course description and he was sold, too. (He loves Mr. D!)
Like many teens, my son struggles with planning and time management. College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math is a 16-week online course. There is also a self-paced option available. The course is a 0.5-semester credit in leadership development. College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math covers goal setting, time management, planning, and financial literacy.
Right now, my son is learning all about the stock market with Mr. D. He is head-over-heels in love with the online interactive stock market game. We call him the Mr. D Day Trader! Mr. D will be giving out prizes in May based on this activity and my son is all in.
Do you see that smile above? He’s always beaming when he’s in class with Mr. D. He’s such a dynamic teacher who is a master at making online learning engaging!
So, what does my homeschooled 7th grader think about College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math?
Hello! I am currently taking a live online course through Mr. D Math called College and Career Readiness. I am in seventh grade and I’m about to turn thirteen. I decided to take this class because I thought it would be interesting to learn life skills and become financially literate. Plus, I have taken courses with Mr. D before and I really enjoyed the experience.
College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math is a fun way to learn life skills, learn about finances, and prepare for college. It is great for kids aged twelve to eighteen.
This course takes place over sixteen weeks, during which you will learn:
- Tips for managing yourself and your time
- To write checks and use credit and debit cards
- How the stock market works
- The college prep process
- and much more!
Each week on Tuesday at 4:00, there is a live lesson and it is about an hour long. Mr. D will present slides and talk about the topic for that week. For any student that cannot attend, the full recording will be posted in the homework area.

The course dashboard is super easy to use and everything is organized well.
The homework each week will include a question you will discuss on a forum with your classmates, often a quiz and/or short video, and other stuff depending on the topic for the week. Late submissions are allowed if you miss a deadline.
College and Career Readiness with Mr. D Math also a fun virtual stock market game in week six and you learn all about the stock market. There are even prizes at the end of the semester!
There will be a live event with a guest speaker near the end of the semester, which will be posted for students who cannot attend. There will also be two virtual field trips at the end of the semester, one with a technology company, and the other on a college campus. You can see all of the week’s assignments, classes, and events in the course schedule located on the dashboard:
If you have questions about the subject, you can ask on the message board. You can also chat with fellow students
I would recommend this class to anyone between the ages of ten and eighteen who need tips on life skills, finances, and college. I am learning a lot! Thanks, Mr. D!
If you’re a homeschool parent, online learning can be a game-changer.
If you are a homeschool parent who is considering outsourcing a subject this year, I highly recommend Mr. D Math. My oldest has loved all three courses he’s taken. And outsourcing has lightened my load. That’s priceless, especially in a year like this one! Plus, College and Career Readiness is teaching him important life skills!
