It’s no secret that our family loves Coffee and Books.
This treasured family tradition was not planned. In fact, it slowly emerged during a challenging season and grew into our most favorite thing. You can read more about that story here, but today I’d like to share some of our favorite titles from the past several months.
And I have readers to thank for this list. At your urging, I’ve decided to start a monthly Coffee and Books series. This way, you can see all of our favorite books listed by category and subject. This will hopefully make it easier for you to fill those library totes each week!
Also, I will be making this list available in a free download form for subscribers. Click here to learn more about the benefits of the My Little Poppies subscriber community.

Do you have this book list as a download, perhaps? I would love this!!
Yes! If you are a subscriber I made a downloadable for you!
Thank you for the list and I look forward to the ones coming! I can fill our library tote easily based on our theme/season/subject, but it’s not always easy to read through the books first. I’ve made some poor selections and appreciate lists like these with recommended books.
This is great, Cait! It’s lovely to glean ideas from your readings! Our version of coffee and books usually takes place after lunch time, when we need a contraction in our day to slow down and regroup (and sip more coffee!) I often take out coloring books or other quiet things to keep little hands busy. Right now we are reading Beezus and Ramona for our chapter book and assorted fables and animal poetry in between. Have you read A Hint of Pine, A Whiff of Skunk? Hilarious animal poetry book!
We recently read, “The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles” and LOVED it!!!
Thank you for this list. We are excited to dive into many of these!
pumpkin light is a book id recommend.
Best book I’ve read with my kids lately: All of a Kind Family by Sydney Taylor “tells about the adventures of five sisters growing up in a Jewish family in New York in the early twentieth century.” Super sweet and a great cross cultural experience.
Best book I’ve read recently: This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel “a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan.” LOVED it.
