Coffee and Books with Candlewick Press: A Delightful Start to the Day
*Disclosure: I received books from Candlewick Press and was compensated for my time. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I only share resources that I would use with my own family and those that I believe other families will enjoy. We absolutely adore Candlewick Press. We have loved their books for years!Â
First, I’m going to share the titles that we have enjoyed this month. You are going to love them. Then, I’ll share some tips ‘n’ tricks for starting a Coffee and Books morning routine in your homeschool!
Coffee and Books with Candlewick Press
I have loved Candlewick Press for years. Decades, actually.
When I was a pre-teen, I used to babysit for my neighbors. The mom, who I adored, was an avid reader. She and I would swap books all the time. We also shared a love of children’s books. She was the one who first introduced me to Candlewick Press, a book publisher located just outside of Boston.
It was love at first sight.
So, when I was given the opportunity to check out some new books from Candlewick Press, I jumped at the chance.
I love Candlewick Press for several reasons:
- First, their children’s books are high-quality
- Second, the illustrations are often gorgeous
- Finally, my kids always love Candlewick Press books! And I love to follow their lead!
Here are the Candlewick Press titles I selected:
Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Suprise by David Ezra Stein
This is the much-anticipated sequel to The Caldecott Honor Book, Interrupting Chicken. If you are friends with us in real life, you’ve undoubtedly received this book from our family. It is one of our top, go-to birthday gifts.
Why, you might wonder?
It’s HILARIOUS.
(I swear, that adorably impulsive and energetic Chicken lives in my house… but that’s a whole other story!)
Good Rosie! by Kate DiCamillo
I chose this one because I have yet to read anything by Kate DiCamillo that my kids don’t love. She’s absolutely amazing!
Good Rosie! was perfectly timed for our family as we just added a new puppy to the fold!
Magnificent Birds by Narisa Togo
This is a beautifully illustrated book for the little birders in your life. My kids absolutely adored it!
And, keeping with the bird theme…
A Pandemonium of Parrots and Other Animals illustrated by Hui Skipp
Gosh, this was a fun one!
If you have a young animal lover in your life, they are going to eat this one up!
From a flamboyance of flamingoes to a sloth of bears, your family will learn all about groups of animals. Plus, if you have I Spy fans in the house, they will love the little challenges on each page!
We paired the last two books with some of our favorite nature games and nature books and – BOOM!- we had ourselves a lazy unit study…
The Dam by David Almond
Inspired by a true story, this beautifully illustrated picture book tells the story of a wild and beautiful place, full of nature and music.
This picture book inspired an afternoon of rabbit holes- learning about the purpose of dams and how dams function!
Discovery Globe: Build-Your-Own Globe Kit by Leon Gray
How fun is this??
I am saving it for later in the school year, but here is a sneak-peek inside:
And here is a video from Candlewick Press:
Do you know what? As I sit here, writing this post, I realize that this isn’t my first Candlewick press book gush. There are others!
