I recently shared your favorite My Little Poppies posts from 2015, but today I wanted to do something a little bit different and share my favorite posts from 2015.
Cait’s Favorite My Little Poppies Posts from 2015
I’m not listing these in any order because my brain doesn’t think that way. Instead, I’ve listed ten of my favorite posts from the year that was.
Wondering if your child is gifted/2e?
I See You, Poppy Parent: Recognizing Giftedness in Others
I’ve mentioned before that gifted hindsight is 20/20. Isn’t this true? Once you embark on this path, you can look back and see all the signs. This is a letter that I penned to another poppy parent. It’s so important for us to understand that we are not alone. There are many other poppy parents out there, just like us! This is exactly why Colleen and I created Raising Poppies!
12 Things My Kids Have Learned from Kenny Chesney
Music is a huge part of our daily life over here, folks. Our Bose is on almost all day long. Every afternoon we gather in my kitchen for Kenny Hour. This silly and beloved family tradition was born out of desperation. It was my last-ditch attempt, during the witching hour, to save my sanity. Over time, it has grown into a cherished family tradition. In fact, my husband just bought me the best Kenny-kitchen-dancing-related Christmas gift.
Our $5 Tinker Kit
I talked about making this kit for months before I actually got around to do it. It took me about thirty minutes to assemble and then another half dozen months to write about, but our tinker kit is one of our most loved toys. It never fails to inspire creativity, imagination, and fun. I wish I had created our tinker kit when I first thought of it, and I wish I had written the post earlier too so that it could help all of you!
The Best Gifts for Kids with Sensory Stuff
As a school psychologist and mother to a child with a lot of “sensory stuff”, I receive oodles of inquiries about our favorite products. Folks out there want to know what has worked. They want to hear about what has helped other families deep in the throes of sensory stuff. I wanted to write this post last year, but this type of post takes a long time to write and the holiday chaos that was last year got the best of me and I was unable to finish it. I resolved to finish it this year and I am proud of the result. It was a lot of hard work to pull together, but these are the tools and tips and tricks that have helped our little family along the way.
Using Games in Your Homeschool
If you have been reading this site for any length of time, you are already aware that board games and play are a huge part of our curriculum over here. Play is both the language and the science of childhood. Children learn so much through hands-on play. Board games are so much more than just fun! In this post, I share some of the ways we use games in our homeschool.
Calm Kids Down with Doodle Diaries
I love this post because it describes a simple change to our routine that has made a world of difference. And it doesn’t just help my children, it also helps me! It is amazing to me what a little bit of doodling can do. It can change moods, calm children down, and fix a day that is off to a bad start. I highly recommend trying it! This has become a huge part of our homeschool routine, and I count it as art… because it is!
Her Homeschool Manifesto
My daughter is the kindest little soul. I always say that the world needs more people like her in it. When a girl like that writes a manifesto, you read it! Her manifesto was incredible. I have already tucked it safely away in her memory box because it is an absolute treasure. We are happy to have her home with us.
Inscription-Worthy Books for Children
One of my first words was “bookie” and I would follow my mom around our home, book in hand, saying, “Bookie bookie bookie bookie bookie.” I have been a bibliophile since the very beginning, folks! To say that I love books would be an understatement. I live and breathe books, and so do my children. I started the {Virtual} Family Book Club at My Little Poppies to share my love of children’s literature with families and I have adored every minute of selecting books each month and posting our plans. It’s wonderful to share great books with others!
Make Your Own Worry Basket
I speak candidly about our family’s struggles with the dreaded Worry Monster on this site and others. I talk about our struggle with sensory stuff and perfectionism and the strategies we use to calm and soothe. This post is a conglomeration of tips and tricks and books and resources and tools that have helped our family to send the Worry Monster packing when he shows up at our door. I regularly receive e-mails from readers who have benefited from this post, and that warms my heart.
Now that I’ve shared my favorite posts, I’d love to hear yours!
It doesn’t have to be a post from My Little Poppies, but I’d love to hear what has touched your heart in the last year. Share here!
