Groovy Lab in a Box is an award-winning educational kit for children ages 8 and up that teaches children about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I gush about Groovy Lab in a Box all the time, both on social media and on this site. You can read some of my previous gushes here and here and here.
Full disclosure: I always say I should write more posts about the fun we have when Groovy Lab in a Box arrives at our door, but the problem is that I get so immersed in the kits that I forget to take photos. I kid you not! These kits are fun for the entire family.
Each Groovy Lab in a Box kit comes with an engineering challenge and all the materials needed to complete the project, including a lab notebook where kids can read about the task and related STEM topic and record their findings.
Our family has tried a number of subscription services over the years and Groovy Lab in a Box is amazing. I kid you not: I hide it when it arrives. Why? Because everyone wants to stop everything and start immediately… self-included!
Did you know that Groovy Lab in a Box just got better?
Things Just Got Groovier:
Groovy Lab in a Box Has Partnered with Popular Mechanics!
Can you even?!
The first Popular Mechanics box to launch is called What’s the Matter. It is a project about the scientific properties of ice. Featured in the June issue of Popular Mechanics, this box is available for purchase through the Groovy Lab in a Box site!
What’s the Matter?
The What’s the Matter kit guides children through an investigation of the states of matter and teaches them about the properties of ice. It is a perfect fun summer learning opportunity for the whole family. Believe me, parents, you are going to want to join in the fun! Groovy Lab in a Box is as much fun for me as it is for my three STEM-ists!
In this box, children are asked to design the lighting for a “groovy” ice hotel. They get to make a portable lantern out of ICE!
I love Groovy Lab in a Box because it is educational and FUN. My children learn best when the learning is hands-on and enjoyable. Our family makes memories using these boxes. We laugh and learn and have a blast together.
What did the kids think?
What’s the Matter was such a fun summer experience for our family! My children learned about the states of matter through hands-on experiments… and had fun in the process!
The ice lantern might be our favorite Groovy Lab in the Box challenge to date… and there have been many!

Can’t get enough STEM? Neither can we! Here are just a few STEM-related posts:
